- Short Bio
Nate Oster is a player-coach with ATSC (formerly Number Six Software), where he helps clients adopt agile development methods. As a technical leader, Nate builds high-performance teams that emphasize continuously measuring progress with tested functionality, exercising all skills in parallel, and frequently delivering high-quality software.
Nate inspires adopters with a combination of hands-on mentoring and simulations that provide a safe learning environment for new ideas. He’s frequently consulted as an expert in test automation and system performance engineering, and promotes testing as a serous technical discipline.
A strong advocate for agile technical practices and open source, Nate serves as an open-source committer for the Eclipse Process Framework project, authoring much of the “Concurrent Testing” practice. While Nate maintains a speaking schedule at software development conferences, most of his time is spent as a hands-on team leader and coach for software development teams.
Previous projects include military logistics, clinical healthcare, and banking financial systems. Nate is a liberal arts geek and graduate of Grove City College, where he studied philosophy, religion, and economics. Today, Nate lives in northern Virginia with his wife, Heather, an educator. They enjoy technical rock climbing, backpacking, and travel. Nate is easily defeated at all card games.
