- Short Bio
George is a multi medium artist (performance, video and sound installations), Art Psychotherapist for the UK National Health Service (Psychiatry), narrowboat owner and cyclist “Living as a Dutchman in England”. From 1993, working as an Artist-in-Residence / Tangential Thinking Co-ordinator / Querdenker Koordinator (Germany) at conferences of the Pattern Languages of Programming community in the US and Europe. He gave tutorials and facilitated a range of daytime and evening events as Creativity Consultant at OOPSLA’05 in San Diego. He similarly contributed to OOPSLA’06 in Portland Oregon and made an instant “Art Movie for Geeks” whilst at OOPSLA’07 in Montreal.
As an artist-in-residence at these conferences since 1993, he has involved all participants in creating relatively unrehearsed pieces of ‘patterns’ music’, where the movement of the sound around the players, who are also the audience, is of prime importance. His 2007 piece “Klangbewegung Schwerleicht” for two large concentric circular ‘orchestras’, each with it’s own conductor, who in turn are conducted by the director, is an example of this interest in sound movement.
Other 2009 projects include a continuing unusual themed radio show and working on a major sound installation with a visual artist (who combines multiple synchronised slide projectors with video/data projection) for exhibition in planetaria. He has also been invited to DJ at a new experimental music club in Berlin.
