Tools for Agility

Producer: Michael Hüttermann (producer) Training and Consulting
Assistant: John Smart (producer) Wakaleo Consulting

The first value pair of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development states “Individuals and interactions over processes and tools”. This means that tools have their value even in lightweight agile development models. But in Agile development, the tools should serve the developer, not the inverse. Using the right tools right can increase productivity and accelerate communication and transparency enormously.

We are especially looking for submissions for Agile 2009 (Chicago, Aug 24-28) that discuss:

  • Tools for estimation, planning and task tracking
  • Tools for requirement gathering and tracking and story management
  • Tools for Continuous Integration
  • Tools for Test Driven Development and Behaviour Driven Development
  • Tools for improving code quality (e.g. code quality and code coverage tools)
  • Tools for facilitating collaborative code reviews
  • Tools for Version Control Systems
  • Tools for Build and Integration Management
  • Tools for component tests and functional tests
  • Tools for testing web applications and rich clients
  • Tools and domain specific languages
  • Extraordinary tools and new ways using traditional tools
  • Experience reports about introduction of tools, transition to tools and similar
  • Empiric and academic research about using tools in agile software development
  • Sophisticated tools for enriching agile development process & team motivation like Coffee or Cake ;-)

We prefer submissions discussing not only a tool itself but also show how to use the tool in an agile way. Especially smart integrations of different tools are welcome. Plain marketing product promotion sessions will not be considered.

The following information should be part of your submission. The better the understanding we get from your proposal, the better your chances are to be included into the program.

  • Presentation Title
  • Presentation Description – a brief summary
  • Presentation Outline – the structure of your session
  • Session Learning Objectives – What messages are you communicating to the attendees?
  • Presentation Format – Experience Report, Talk, Tutorial, Research Paper, Panel Discussion or other
  • Audience Level – Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Guru
  • Presentation Delivered Before – If you have delivered this session before, please note it here
  • References attesting former presentations, presentation style and skills
  • Presenter Biography – Some sentences about yourself
