It Takes Two to Tango; Four to Square Dance

Level: Introductory

Do you understand why your team behaves the way it does? In this session, you’ll leave with ways to unlock the true potential of your team through better and more productive communication. You will learn how to identify behavioral profiles, and how to capitalize on the diverse behaviors found on typical teams. A highly interactive, fun, and refreshing look at the human element with actionable techniques that target individuals and their interactions. Topics range from enhancing interpersonal communication (Tango) to effectively leveraging the anatomy of your team (Square Dance).

Process/Mechanics

Each of the learning outcomes is addressed in a fast paced presentation with several interactive discussions, problem solving exercises, and games. The sequence and timings are:

  1. Motivation for this presentation: The first value of the Agile Manifesto emphasizes individuals and interactions yet everywhere you look the focus seems to be on processes and tools (5 minutes)
  2. Exercises for collaborative problem solving, self-selecting teams, and handling conflict (15 minutes)
  3. Organizational Behavior 101 (5 minutes)
  4. Productivity enablers and detractors (10 minutes)
  5. Audience participation game on collaboration and communication (15 minutes)
  6. Understanding behavioral profiles (15 minutes)
  7. Interactive video quiz (10 minutes)
  8. Workplace motivators (5 minutes)
  9. Additional discussion/questions (10 minutes)
