Starting Agile implementation half way through the critical project

room: Regency C — time: Thursday 16:00-16:45
Level: Introductory

Changing methodology in the midst of the high-risk project is a risky proposition. At the University of Michigan we had several options: spoon feed and implement as you go, make immediate and drastic changes, plan carefully to implement confidently and thoroughly.

Process/Mechanics

The talk will be supported by slide presentation starting with the chronological listing of events and expanding into the discussion of the agile concepts that were either implemented, or modified/customized or avoided, description of the artifacts used and metrics developed and applied and ending with the retrospective and next steps. The last 15 minutes of the session will be devoted to questions and interactive discussion.

Learning outcomes
  • Ways to implement agile: divide and conquer large project and persuade skeptical team members and concerned sponsors.
  • Trials and tribulations of developing and applying agile metrics.
  • Comparative analysis: later agile phases of the project vs. waterfall beginnings.
